Meaning
Generally, idolatry means the worship of anything or being that is not God Almighty.
Types Of Idolatry
Generally, people claim to worship only one God. But alas, in spirit, they are worshipping multiplicity of gods.
- The worship of places like mountains, rivers forests, etc.
- The worship of object like trees, rocks, sun, moon, stars, etc.
- The worship of different animals, by respective towns or communities.
- The worship of Devil, evil spirits, demons, ghosts, witches and black energies.
- The worship of idols and shrines, ancestral palaces, etc.
- The worship of Mary and Saints.
- The worship of carved images.
- Putting undue trust in man instead of depending on God.
- Anything that is always drawing people attention, especially unnecessarily.
- Anything that make people to stray from the righteousness of God, like money, wealth, fame, power, popularity, etc.
- Anything that people are so fond of that they disobey the word of God because of it. Examples include answering phone calls during prayers and worship, singing immoral songs, etc. And there are so many of such bad things.
- Anything that people are possessive of, become attached to, to the extent that people feel they cannot live without that thing.
